A Wilbraham man was indicted Tuesday for allegedly sending violent threats over social media to elected officials, private individuals, and children, according to officials.
Funwayo Mbilini Nyawo, 36, was indicted on 13 counts of interstate transmission of threatening communications and one count of stalking through facilities of interstate commerce, according to a statement from the United States Attorney’s office in Massachusetts.
Between July 30, 2024, and Oct. 1, 2024, Nyawo made posts on X threatening to kill an elected United States official, a former U.S. official, a former member of a Massachusetts police department, a private individual, local officials, members of the Wilbraham Police Department and Wilbraham Fire Department, as well as all of the individuals’ families, according to the statement.
In the same time frame, Nyawo also made threats against children of Wilbraham and Boston and an elementary school in Springfield, according to the statement.
Between Aug. 17, 2024, and on or around Oct. 1, 2024, Nyawo also used X to further intimidate and harass the U.S. official, their spouse, their child, their child’s spouse, and the official’s grandchildren, according to the statement.
Nyawo — whose alleged aliases include “Jonathan Funwayo Nyawo,” “Michael Jacobs” “Robert Jacobs,” and “Carl Fields” — was also arrested on Feb. 25 in Florida and will be detained until his court hearing in Springfield, Mass., which has not yet been scheduled.
