Fall River teen charged with murder in 20-year-old relative’s shooting death

Authorities did not identify the 17-year-old boy, who is due for arraignment Monday.

A 17-year-old boy is charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a male relative inside their Fall River apartment Saturday afternoon.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Jaleale Simmons but did not name the teen.

Officers responded to the family’s Rodman Street home around 12:30 p.m. Saturday for a reported shooting and found Simmons with a gunshot wound to his chest, the DA’s office said. First responders rushed Simmons to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Simmons’s 17-year-old relative is due for arraignment in Fall River District Court Monday. Under Massachusetts law, juveniles aged 14 and older who are charged with murder are automatically treated as adults.

In a Saturday afternoon statement, Fall River police said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the community.

“This is a tragic loss of life, and our deepest sympathies go out to the victim’s family,” the police department said. “We ask our community to come together in support of those affected during this difficult time. Additionally, we encourage everyone to approach discussions on social media with discernment, love, and compassion.”
