Barnstable police arrested a 36-year-old Yarmouth man after he allegedly shot and killed a 41-year-old Hyannis man in a parking lot early Sunday morning.
Police responded at about 1 a.m. to the North Street parking lot near Washington Street in Hyannis for a report of a gunshot, according to a Barnstable police statement.
A responding officer found the Hyannis man with a gunshot wound to his head, police said. The officer performed life-saving measures, and Hyannis Fire and Rescue then took the man to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told officers that a dark colored pickup truck had left the scene shortly after the shooting, according to the statement. An officer subsequently located the truck and its driver nearby.
The Yarmouth man was taken into custody, charged with murder, and was being held without bail at the Barnstable police station.
