2 men facing murder charges for fatal Mattapan shooting

Two men are charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting of a 33-year-old Mattapan man, police said.

Two men have been arrested and charged for fatally shooting a 33-year-old Mattapan man Feb. 4, Boston police said.

Officers arrested Shavon Darby, 29, of East Weymouth at around 7:15 p.m. Thursday on an outstanding warrant for the murder of Mauricio M. Lawrence, police said in a statement.

A second suspect, Roberto Taylor, 29, of Dorchester, is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm, according to police.

Taylor was already in custody on rape charges, for which he was arraigned in Dorchester District Court Feb. 28, according to court records.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Feb. 4, officers responded to a call about a person shot in the area of 35 Tennis Road in Mattapan. On arrival, officers found a man, later identified as Lawrence, suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

Lawrence was pronounced dead while being transported to Boston Medical Center, according to police.

Darby was arraigned Friday in Dorchester District Court and charged with first-degree murder, according to court records. He is currently held without bail and is due back in court April 4 for a probable cause hearing.

Taylor is set to be arraigned in the same court tomorrow, court records show.
