A teen boy was fatally stabbed while another was seriously injured in Chelsea Saturday night, officials said.

Chelsea police said they responded to Eastern Avenue near Stockton Street around 8:26 p.m., where police found the two juveniles. The altercation allegedly involved a gun and knives, Chelsea police said Saturday night.

A 17-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital, where he died. A 15-year-old boy was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

“Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Chelsea community as we work diligently to bring those responsible to justice,” Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton said in a statement.

The 17-year-old was identified as Juan Carlos Lemus. He attended Chelsea High School, the district confirmed. Superintendent Almi Abeyta said resources and social workers will be made available for students at school on Monday.

“We want to remind everyone that our counseling services are available to provide help to anyone in need, and we encourage those seeking support to reach out,” Abeyta said in a statement. “The loss of Juan Carlos has deeply affected us all, and our thoughts and prayers remain with his loved ones.”

The incident is being investigated by Chelsea police detectives and Massachusetts State Police assigned to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office. In a statement Sunday morning, the DA said an investigation is underway, and there have been no arrests.

“Violence like this shocks and saddens our immediate neighborhoods and our entire society, as it should, especially when the victims are so young,” Hayden said. “We move forward best when we have help from the community and we hope anyone with information about this tragic incident will contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police assigned to Hayden’s office at 617-727-8817, call Chelsea police at (617)466-4805, or provide an anonymous tip through social media.
