Registered sex offender allegedly photographs woman in Mass. YMCA shower, officials say

On Sunday, East Bridgewater police responded to a report about a “suspicious man” allegedly taking photos or video of a woman in the shower.

A registered sex offender from Brockton was arrested Monday for allegedly taking photos of a woman in a YMCA shower in East Bridgewater, officials said. 

Abidan Rivera, 42, was charged with photographing, videotaping or electronically surveilling someone nude/partially nude, or sexual intimate parts, according to a statement from the East Bridgewater Police Department.

On Sunday, East Bridgewater police responded to a report from the YMCA, located on 635 Plymouth St., about a “suspicious man” allegedly taking photos or video of a woman in the shower, according to the statement.

Police identified the man as Rivera through eye witness accounts and surveillance camera footage. Police also discovered Rivera’s status as a level 2 sex offender, according to the statement.

Rivera was arrested at his Middleborough workplace on Monday through an arrest warrant, according to the statement. He was arraigned Tuesday and the judge set a $10,000 bail with GPS monitoring if released, as well as orders to stay away from the targeted woman and the YMCA.
