A prank turned violent Tuesday afternoon when a group of teens threw a firecracker at a store entrance, resulting in an attack, police said.

According to the Boston Police Department, one suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

Police say a group of teens was walking by a store on Cambridge Street and Gordon Street when they threw a firecracker at the front entrance.

Someone in the store walked outside to confront the group and began video recording them. The police reported that one of the teens smacked the phone out of his hands and began to assault him.

Three bystanders attempted to intervene, the police said, but the suspect pushed them to the ground. The suspect then grabbed a broom from one of the victims and began to hit them. He continued to punch and kick the victims with his boot multiple times, police said.

All four alleged victims declined medical treatment.

Police were told that 12 teens were attacking three people, but the remaining youths fled the scene before the police’s arrival.

The alleged victims were able to stop one of the suspects who instigated the fight and police placed him under arrest.
