Former Mass. postal worker pleads guilty to stealing ‘hundreds’ of pieces of mail, thousands in money orders

Michael Murray, 37, of Lynn will be sentenced in February.

A former clerk for the United States Postal Service in Revere and Melrose admitted on Monday to stealing hundreds of pieces of mail in 2023, authorities announced.

Michael Murray, 37, of Lynn pleaded guilty to one count of theft of mail matter by an employee and one count of theft of government money in federal court, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Leah Foley. He was previously indicted by a grand jury last year.

Authorities said that between April 2023 and July 2023, Murray used his position as a postal clerk at the Beach Street Post Office in Revere and the Melrose Post Office to steal “the contents of hundreds of pieces of mail entrusted to him.” The stolen items included gift cards, cash, and checks amounting to $3,422, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

He will return to court for sentencing on Feb. 3.
