18-year-old hospitalized after Brookline shooting, police say

A Newton teen was injured in a shooting in the early hours of Saturday morning.

An 18-year-old Newton man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in Brookline early Saturday morning, police said.

Brookline police responded at around 1:25 a.m. to multiple calls reporting possible shots fired in the area of New Terrace Road, according to a spokesperson for the Brookline Police Department. Officers did not find the victim, but found several spent shell casings.

After dispatchers called multiple hospitals in the area, police discovered that a victim suffering a gunshot wound to the hip had walked into Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the department said. Officers later confirmed that the victim had been injured in the shooting at New Terrace Road. At the hospital, they discovered a vehicle that appeared to have gunshot damage, according to police.

After an investigation was conducted by Brookline Police detectives, the department made four arrests Tuesday, according to a press release from the department. Two of the persons arrested and charged are minors.

A 17-year-old male from Roslindale was charged with four counts of armed assault to murder, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, according to the department.

A 16-year-old male from Brookline was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, improper firearm storage, unlawful possession of large capacity feeding device, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Thomas May, an 18-year-old male from Brookline, and Guilherme Leal De Britto Pereira, an 18-year-old male from Needham, were also charged with being an accessory after the fact.

The shooting remains under active investigation by the department’s Detective Division, according to the press release. As of Tuesday night, the victim’s name has not been released.
