Two shootings in Worcester this month, one fatal, helped make 2024 one of Worcester’s worst years in terms of number of homicides. Two juveniles are among those facing charges.
A man was fatally shot in a vehicle at 58 Dorchester St. around 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 16, police said.
Four people were arrested in connection with the shooting, including a juvenile, and each charged with armed assault with intent to murder.
Dylan Driscoll, 19, was arrested in New Jersey, while Adrian Rodriguez, 33, Darius Perkins, 20, and the juvenile were arrested in Fitchburg on Dec. 22, Worcester police said in a statement last week.
Just a day later, on Dec. 23, Worcester police responded to Mt. Vernon Street following ShotSpotter activation. Police said a man, 25, then appeared at an area hospital with a gunshot wound.
After investigating, police arrested a 14-year-old boy on Saturday and charged him with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and multiple firearm charges.
Police typically do not publicly identify juveniles facing charges.
The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported that the city recorded 16 homicides this year, which is the highest in 38 years and 10 more than in 2023. Twelve of the victims were killed by firearms, the newspaper reported.
