Authorities have identified several persons of interest who were “previously acquainted” with a 43-year-old Abington man found dead in his backyard Friday, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said.
Investigators believe Anthony Leverone died of blunt force trauma and “high impact” injuries, Plymouth DA Timothy J. Cruz and Abington Police Chief John Bonney said in a Monday update.
A relative of Leverone called police Friday around 7:25 p.m. to request a well-being check, and officers arrived at Leverone’s Plymouth Street home to find him unresponsive in the yard, authorities said. Abington fire crews pronounced Leverone dead at the scene.
The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine his official cause and manner of death, Cruz and Bonney noted. They said Massachusetts State Police detectives and Abington police have interviewed multiple people, reviewed surveillance video, and executed search warrants on several cellphones as part of their investigation, which remains ongoing.
Cruz and Bonney did not publicly name any people of interest but said authorities found and seized a blue Hyundai Sonata in Taunton as part of their investigation.
Investigators previously said the incident “does not appear to be a random act of violence,” The Boston Globe reported.
