Mass. woman charged after road rage incident involving car crash, pipe attack

The suspect allegedly rear-ended another vehicle, pushing it into a building.

A driver involved in an alleged road rage incident that led to a crash into a building was arrested on multiple charges Monday, officials said.

At 3:45 p.m., Stoughton Police responded to 218 Canton St. for a report of a two-car crash with a vehicle into a building, according to a statement from police.

Erin McElroy, 44, of West Bridgewater, Mass., allegedly rear-ended another vehicle, leading to the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicated that immediately after crashing into the other vehicle, McElroy stepped out of her vehicle and “struck the other vehicle involved several times with a metal pipe,” police said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the building suffered serious injuries and was taken to Boston Medical Center, authorities said.

McElroy was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton for an evaluation. She will be booked upon release from the hospital, police said.

According to the statement, McElroy was charged with malicious damage to property, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and disturbing the peace, although authorities said further charges may be added.

McElroy is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Stoughton District Court. The case remains under investigation.
