Man found by hunter in Maine woods was murdered, police say

The body of William Nathaniel Robinson, 34, was found near the Schmid Land Preserve in Edgecomb.

Maine authorities are investigating the murder of a Virginia man, whose body was found in the woods by a hunter last week.

The body of the man, later identified as William Nathaniel Robinson, 34, of Austinville, Virginia, was discovered by a hunter on Dec. 3 near the Schmid Land Preserve on Old County Road in Edgecomb, Maine State Police said in a statement. The hunter called 9-1-1 around 9:30 a.m. and state police responded to the scene.

An autopsy determined Robinson’s cause of death was a gunshot wound and ruled it a homicide, police said. The 34-year-old had been recently staying at a home in Edgecomb.
