Man, woman charged in Brockton fatal shooting

Prosecutors said Rivaldo Jean and Imani Cort are allegedly responsible for the murder of Frantzy Jeanty in Brockton.

Prosecutors have arraigned a man and a woman for the murder of a man in a Brockton apartment, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced on Monday.

Rivaldo Jean, 23, and Imani Cort, 21 allegedly shot and killed Brockton man Frantzy Jeanty on Friday, the DA said in a release posted to social media.

Police received a 911 call around 3:23 p.m. on Nov. 22 that reported “a male victim on the floor and there was blood,” the statement said. Brockton police and fire arrived at 125 Pleasant Street where they found Jeanty, 54, with “multiple gunshot wounds” and pronounced him dead at the scene, Cruz said.

An investigation into the incident, led by State Police detectives, found security footage near the scene that showed a man and a woman emerging from a white Audi parked near 125 Pleasant Street, the DA said. Using the footage, the DA said detectives identified Jean and Cort as the suspects.

Suspects charged with breaking and entering into Brockton apartment

According to Cruz, the video showed Jean climbing the fire escape to enter the building and going back downstairs to let Cort in.

Security footage allegedly shows the pair going to Apartment 6A, where Jeanty lived, the DA said. Cort knocked on the door, asking for the victim, while Jean stood to the side, prosecutors said.

“The victim opens the door, Cort steps out of the way, and Jean enters the apartment,” the statement said. “Shortly thereafter, several gunshots are heard.”

According to Cruz, the video shows Jean leaving the apartment with a suitcase. Investigators believe the suitcase contains a small safe with thousands of dollars in cash, the statement said. Cruz said the pair fled the scene in the white Audi, which detectives said is registered to Cort’s mother.

State police took Cort into custody on Saturday, Cruz said. She pleaded not guilty to murder, armed home invasion, breaking and entering, and larceny.

State police put out an arrest warrant for Jean, who was taken into custody Monday morning in Dorchester, Cruz said. Jean pleaded not guilty to murder, illegally possessing a firearm, assault and battery, shooting a firearm near a home, armed home invasion, breaking and entering, and larceny, the statement said.

Representation for Cort and Jean could not be reached for comment. Cruz said the pair is due back in court Dec. 23.
