A Plymouth man was convicted of murder in connection to the 2020 death of Lloyd Borgella, 26, of Roslindale.
Pauliasky Jean-Francois, 38, was found guilty of first-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a firearm without a license, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Woburn Chief of Police Robert Rufo.
He’s scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 25.
“Pauliasky Jean-Francois targeted Lloyd Borgella and waited for him to exit a restaurant where he had gone on a first date. When Mr. Borgella stepped outside, the defendant opened fire in the public parking lot of the busy restaurant. While the victim in this case was struck 13 times, over 20 rounds were actually fired in rapid fashion,” said Ryan. “This increasing use of firearms to gun people down and create enormous public safety risks cannot be tolerated. As demonstrated by this prosecution we are committed to holding those who engage in this behavior accountable.”
On Dec. 12, 2020, Woburn police responded to a call reporting a shooting in the parking lot of Jake n JOES Sports Grille at 230 Mishawum Road in Woburn.
Investigators say Borgella was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to officials.
According to police, Jean-Francois and Eric Mills of Hyde Park waited for Borgella to exit the restaurant.
Borgella was shot 13 times, and Mills and Jean-Francois attempted to flee in their car, according to the statement.
Jean-Francois later crashed the car into a tree at the intersection of School Street and Forrest Park Road — less than half a mile from the restaurant, according to officials. The men then had to flee on foot, according to the statement.
When Jean-Francois was found by police walking on the sidewalk, he told them he was a shooting victim.
Police found security footage that contradicted this statement, according to officials. Police also say they found Jean-Francois with the car’s key in his pocket. Investigators say they found gunshot residue in the car and two semiautomatic pistols along the paths that Jean-Francois and Mills fled.
Mills was also charged with first-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm. The next date in his case is Nov. 26.
