Editor’s note: The name and age of the alleged shoplifter were corrected following new information.
Boston police arrested a woman on Saturday for allegedly shoplifting nearly $5,000 worth of Lululemon merchandise from the company’s Back Bay store.
According to court documents, Kourtney McLean, 33, of Boston, pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of larceny over $1,200 in Boston Municipal Court.
McLean was ordered committed to Suffolk County Jail in lieu of not posting a $750 bail. If released, she is ordered to stay away from the place of offense. A pretrial hearing is set for Dec. 3.
According to Boston police, at about 8:18 p.m., officers were called to the Lululemon at 776 Boylston St. for a shoplifting in progress.
Witnesses gave officers a description of the shoplifter and said she had left the store and was entering Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Officers then located the suspect, later determined to be McLean, who immediately dropped the items upon seeing the officers. McLean was handcuffed, and officers recovered 48 stolen items worth $4,812.84.
After further investigation, police found that Mclean had an active shoplifting warrant.
McLean’s family says she used her sister’s name during the initial interaction with law enforcement, as well as previous ones, and is currently experiencing homelessness.
“As a family, we are deeply concerned for Kourtney and the path she is currently on,” McLean’s family shared with Boston.com in a statement. “While we cannot support these choices, we are hopeful this incident might inspire her to seek the help she needs. Our wish is for her to find stability and health.”
