A man from India who was arrested on Monday after allegedly masturbating and making nonconsensual sexual advances toward a passenger on a flight from Abu Dhabi to Boston has agreed to plead guilty, documents show.
Krishna Kunapuli, 39, allegedly made “unwanted sexual advances” toward a female passenger on the Etihad Airlines flight, including “touching her hair and taking pictures of her without her permission,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Kunapuli also allegedly offered to give the woman $5,000 to “spend the night with him in Boston,” according to an affidavit.
After a crew member intervened and Kunapuli returned to his seat, two male passengers saw him masturbating under a blanket and, at times, fully exposed, the statement said. After one of the passengers reported the incident, a flight attendant intervened and alerted law enforcement.
Kunapuli was charged with one count of lewd, indecent, and obscene acts while in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, according to the office.
Kunapuli has now agreed to plead guilty in a deal that sentences him to probation for 24 months, according to court documents. Kunapuli must also “immediately and permanently” delete the photos he took of the female passenger and have no direct or indirect contact with her.
