One person is in custody after Braintree police responded to an alleged armed bank robbery Friday morning.

An Eastern Bank employee called officers to the 703 Granite St. branch at 10:43 a.m., reporting the bank had been robbed at gunpoint, the Braintree Police Department said in a news release. The department shared surveillance photos that appear to show someone wearing a gray hoodie with the hood tightly drawn, flashing a gun, and shoving cash into a bag.

Authorities broadcast the suspect’s description, and witnesses told officers someone matching that description ran across the street and entered the wood line near 639 Granite St., police said. Shortly before 11 a.m., a Braintree officer detained someone exiting the woods on nearby West Street, according to the release.

“This person was taken into custody and is likely to face charges,” Braintree police said. The department did not publicly identify the individual.

The person who was detained appeared to be naked at the time, according to helicopter images from WCVB. The news outlet reported the person was lying nude in the road, covered with a yellow sheet.

Braintree High School, located across the street from Eastern Bank, was temporarily placed on a “lock-out” as a precaution, police said. Authorities are continuing to investigate the robbery, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the release.

“We would like to thank the neighborhood and witnesses not only for their understanding but their diligence in helping the police in the investigation,” Braintree police said. “As always, we appreciate the assistance of our community members.”
