A 36-year-old Malden man was arrested early Monday in Boston’s Theater District on multiple firearms charges.
Officers initially responded to the area of 100 Warrenton St. at about 3 a.m. for a report of a “large fight,” according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.
As they were responding, a second call came in for shots fired inside the parking garage at 270 Tremont St., authorities said. Officers located an allegedly involved vehicle from a description parked outside the garage and requested that the occupants exit the car.
The passenger then fled the area, and officers watched as he threw a firearm before “slipping and falling,” the statement said. Police placed the man, later identified as Davon Olaes, under arrest.
Officers returned to the vehicle and recovered a box of .22 caliber ammunition, the department said. The firearm was later determined to be a DB9 Diamondback with one round in the chamber and two rounds in the magazine.
After a search of the parking garage, officers did not find any injured victims but found ballistic evidence and spent shell casings.
Olaes’s arrest comes as crime in and around Boston Common has been on the rise over the past few years.
Olaes was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, police said.
Olaes was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
