A Lynn man was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison on Tuesday for raping his young stepdaughter.
A jury found Ivan Santos Lula, 56, guilty on two counts of rape of a child with force, two counts of aggravated rape of a child, and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child, the Essex County District Attorney said in a statement.
Authorities originally indicted Lula in February of 2021.
A statement of facts from the case said the first reported incident of assault happened in December of 2019, when the victim was nine years old. The victim, Lula’s stepdaughter, told her mother about the incident the morning after it happened, documents show.
The victim told police that Lula had a “longer pattern of sexual abuse” toward her, a police report said.
After Lula serves time in prison, he will be subject to three years of probation, court documents show. His sentencing requires him to register as a sex offender and complete sex offender treatment.
He also is barred from having contact with the victim and her family and is not permitted to be around children unsupervised.
An attorney for Lula did not return a request for comment.
