Another pizza driver was robbed in Worcester on Thursday, police said, the fourth delivery driver-related robbery since Aug. 12.
Pfficers responded to a report of an armed robbery early Thursday morning on Lund Street, the Worcester Police Department said in a statement. Two men, one of whom was armed, approached the delivery driver and demanded money. The delivery driver handed over an unspecified amount of cash, and the suspects fled the scene, police said. The driver was unharmed.
Last month, Worcester police reported three other incidents of robberies targeting pizza delivery drivers, all with two suspects, one armed.
The first reported incident happened on Aug. 12, also on Lund Street. Police said armed suspects approached a delivery driver and demanded cash with the gun drawn. They fled the scene with what police said was an “undetermined” amount of money.
Two other reported incidents follow a similar pattern. However, suspects stole a driver’s car in an incident on Aug. 15, and stole a driver’s iPhone on Aug. 18, in addition to stealing cash, police say. All four incidents happened in Worcester’s Vernon Hill neighborhood, based on police statements.
A spokesperson for Worcester police could not confirm if the suspects in every robbery were the same two people but said investigators are in touch with local pizza businesses. The spokesperson said they could not disclose any new plans or tactics by the department so as not to compromise the investigation.
