Boston police officers arrested a 29-year-old man who was allegedly under the influence and carrying a firearm on Saturday in South Boston.

At 2:54 a.m., officers arrested Nicholas Atwood on assault charges, according to a statement from the Boston Police Department

Officers were responding to a report of a person with a gun near 391 D Street and were advised that the suspect was “weaving in and out of traffic on his bicycle,” the statement said.

Someone in a moving vehicle saw Atwood “striking multiple vehicles with his fist” and advised him to stop, before another passenger in the vehicle threw water at the suspect, according to police. Atwood then allegedly pointed a firearm at the person.

Officers located Atwood at 250 Summer Street, put him into handcuffs, and conducted a pat frisk, recovering a holstered firearm inside his waistband, authorities said.

The firearm was determined to be a Sig Sauer P365, officers said, with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.

Upon further investigation, the department found that the suspect had an active license to carry and had consumed “multiple alcoholic beverages” before the incident, the statement said. Atwood’s license to carry was revoked pending investigation.

Atwood was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and carrying a firearm while intoxicated, according to the department.
