A former Lawrence teacher is facing new federal sexual assault charges, the U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire said Monday.
Jesus Moore, 35, was indicted on charges of transporting a former student to New Hampshire to engage in unlawful sexual conduct, U.S. Attorney Jane Young said. Moore was arrested in February after turning himself in to Manchester, New Hampshire police.
He was charged with sexual assault in Manchester District Court in February. Court records regarding updates to the district court case were not immediately available on Monday night.
The incident happened on or around March 7 of 2022, Young said in a statement. The victim was under 18 at the time and a student at the school where Moore was employed, prosecutors say.
Moore worked for Lawrence High School as a physical education teacher and boys basketball coach, Boston.com previously reported.
Moore appeared in court on Monday. He was released on conditions, including that he not travel outside of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, court documents say.
Moore’s trial is set to begin on Oct. 1. Attorneys for Moore did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The minimum sentence for transporting a minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct is 10 years in prison.
