Fall River man killed in Brockton stabbing, suspect arrested, DA says

"The investigation is active and ongoing, but preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act of violence,” District Attorney Timothy Cruz said. 

The suspect has been arrested.

A Fall River man was stabbed to death in a Brockton park on Saturday night, authorities said.

The suspect was caught and placed under arrest, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said in a statement.

Brockton Police received several reports around 6 p.m. detailing the stabbing, Cruz said. When police arrived at the scene, the park at the intersection of Crescent and Montello Streets, they the victim, who died from his injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cruz said.

The statement identified the victim as Edmar Goncalves, 39, of Fall River.

Johnny Richmond, 36, was arrested, Cruz said in the statement.
