Man arrested after Back Bay stabbing

Witnesses observed two men fighting over a cell phone.

Police arrested a Boston man on Tuesday evening, following a stabbing on Boylston Street in front of a Boston Firehouse.

Officers first responded to the area of 352 Newbury St. after a fight was reported. Witnesses had observed two men fighting over who stole a cell phone just before the stabbing occurred nearby, according to the Boston Police Department.

At 941 Boylston St., Boston firefighters aided the victim, police say, while another firefighter stopped the suspect, identified as 64-year-old Kris Jennings, and recovered a knife from him. Jennings was arrested on an assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon charge. He was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Wednesday.

The victim was brought to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
