2 men turn themselves in following Block Island Ferry dock fight

Narragansett police responded to an active fight between 20 and 30 people Saturday night.

Two men turned themselves in after the Narragansett Police Department responded Saturday night to a large fight at the Block Island Ferry dock.

Narragansett police arrested James Ronald Cole Jr., 54, of Westerly, and Jordan Leighty, 41, of Richmond, on Monday for charges of disorderly conduct.

Both men were arraigned in District Court 4th Division earlier this week.

The men join seven other people arrested at the scene on felony assault, resisting arrest, obstructing an officer in execution of duty, disorderly conduct, and simple assault charges.

At 8:12 p.m. Saturday, Narragansett police responded to the Block Island Ferry at 304 Great Island Road for a report of 20 to 30 people actively fighting.

Upon arrival, police say they witnessed “a large group” of people fighting each other.

According to police, several people interfered with arrests, and officers warned them to stand back or be arrested for obstructing.

As a result, police arrested seven people at the scene. Two people were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the fight.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
