Three juvenile girls were arrested in the Downtown Crossing area Monday after allegedly robbing multiple stores and assaulting a security guard, punching and pushing him and pelting him with soda bottles.
On Monday around 6:15 p.m., Boston police responded to a call of “15 people attacking a security guard” at the Walgreens on School Street. The security officer told police that the juveniles stole multiple items from the shelves before attacking him, according to a police report.
When the juveniles were asked to leave, they allegedly began throwing items around the store from the first and second floors. The police report noted multiple broken bottles and items in disarray.
Security footage would later show one of the suspects throwing a 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke at the security guard. Another threw an orange soda and began to punch and hit the guard. The third juvenile is seen pushing the guard, police said.
The other group of juveniles who remained at the scene told BPD they stepped in because their friend was kicked in the stomach by the security officer.
Officers used security footage to find the three remaining juveniles at the Downtown Crossing MBTA station. Boston police catalogued more of the allegedly stolen items, including alcohol and Primark clothing.
The three juveniles were escorted back to the Walgreens, where the security guard identified them as his attackers. In their report, police said that during the arrest, the girls called officers homophobic slurs and kicked them.
One of the juveniles is being charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, and buying, receiving, or concealing stolen goods. The other two suspects are facing robbery and assault and battery charges.
Officials did not name the suspects due to their age. There is no information yet about an arraignment date.
