A New Hampshire mother allegedly reached speeds of more than 100 mph while driving with two young, unbuckled children in the backseat on Friday night.
New Hampshire State Police first spotted the driver on Route 101 westbound shortly before 9:30 p.m. The Chevrolet Tahoe SUV was moving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic, according to a release.
Police said they clocked the car going as fast as 112 mph at one point.
When troopers pulled over the vehicle, police said they noticed two children in the backseat, ages 1 and 4, who were not buckled or secured with any type of child restraints.
Police identified the driver as Shirley Stanley, a 23-year-old resident of Manchester, New Hampshire, and the mother of the two children in the SUV.
Authorities arrested Stanley and charged her with reckless operation, child welfare endangerment (two counts), violation of required child passenger restraints (two counts), failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, unsafe lane change, following too closely, and speeding.
Stanley was processed and released on personal recognizance bail, police said. She is expected back in Candia District Court on June 10 at 8 a.m.
Police request that anyone who may have witnessed the suspect’s driving prior to being pulled over contact Trooper Jacob Benjamin by emailing [email protected] or calling state police dispatch at 603-223-4381.
