A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a potential homicide at an apartment in Greenfield where he was previously a tenant, officials said.
Taaniel Herberger-Brown, 42, of Greenfield, was arrested in New York and charged with murder after police discovered a man’s body inside a Chapman Street apartment Monday, Northeastern District Attorney David E. Sullivan said in a press release.
Greenfield police were called to the apartment — where Taaniel Herberger-Brown was formerly a tenant — Monday afternoon after someone reported a “foul odor” coming from one of the apartments, according to the release. Officers found a man’s body on the floor.
Nobody else was in the apartment at the time, officials said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not identified an exact cause of death or the identity of the man, Sullivan’s office said, but murder is suspected.
Police arrested Herberger-Brown at the Albany International Airport in New York on Tuesday. It is unclear when he will be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment.
The investigation into the death is being conducted by the Greenfield Police Department and State Police.
