Man charged with murder after allegedly stabbing woman in Holyoke

Jason Chapdelaine allegedly fatally stabbed the woman, then was found unresponsive on scene due to self-inflicted harm, officials said.

A man was arrested Sunday in connection to the stabbing death of a woman in Holyoke, officials said. 

Jason Chapdelaine, 52, of Springfield, was arrested Sunday and is charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing a woman, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said in a statement

Holyoke police responded to the 200 block of South Water Street for a report of suspicious activity at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Gulluni’s office said. 

On scene, officers found a woman suffering from stab wounds and Chapdelaine unresponsive due to self-inflicted harm, according to the statement. The woman died of her injuries, officials said.

After being rendered aid, Chapdelaine was taken into custody. He is expected to be arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Tuesday. 

An investigation into the incident by the Holyoke Police Department, State Police, and Hampden District Attorney’s office is ongoing.
