DA: Man hit woman with car in Hopkinton road rage incident

The 26-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries in an apparent road rage incident Thursday, officials said.

A Milford man is facing charges after he allegedly struck a woman with his car in an apparent road rage incident in Hopkinton Thursday night, according to officials.

Ryan Sweatt, 36, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, operating to endanger, and a marked lanes violation, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett said in a press release. Online court records indicate Sweatt is also facing two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to Ryan and Bennett, the preliminary investigation suggests Sweatt was driving a Honda Civic on Route 85 when he became enraged at the occupants of another vehicle.

“At some point, some of the occupants of the other vehicle, including the victim, exited the car,” the press release states. “Sweatt subsequently made a U-turn at a high rate of speed and struck the victim in the roadway.”

Authorities did not identify the 26-year-old woman, who was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Sweatt was arraigned in Framingham District Court Friday morning, where he pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail on dangerousness grounds. He is due back in court next Wednesday for a detention hearing.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing, Ryan and Bennett said.
