A man is facing murder charges after fatally stabbing another man at a rooming house in Fall River on Friday, officials said.
Pedro Fernando Orellano Alvarado, 42, was arrested after stabbing 44-year-old Joseph Bump Friday night and initially charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Sunday.
Fall River police and paramedics responded to 234 Tripp Street at about 9:45 p.m. where they fond Bump, according to the statement. Bump was taken to Saint Anne’s Hospital and pronounced dead at about 10:30 p.m., the DA’s office said.
Alvarado’s charge was upgraded to murder on Sunday, officials said. He is being held in jail over the weekend and will be arraigned in Fall River District Court Monday morning.
Both men were residents of the rooming house, officials said.
State Police detectives and Fall River Police are investigating the incident.
