High school student killed in Fall River daytime shooting

Colus Jamal Mills-Good died at a local hospital after being shot Thursday morning. He was a student at Resiliency Preparatory Academy, according to local reports.

Police are investigating after an 18-year-old man was shot and killed in Fall River Thursday morning.

Fall River police responded to the area of Rock Street and Franklin Street at about 11:40 a.m. Thursday for reports of shots fired, the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a statement.

Upon arrival, they located a man, later identified as 18-year-old Colus Jamal Mills-Good of Fall River, suffering from gunshot wounds, Quinn’s office said.

Mills-Good was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he was later pronounced dead, the statement said.

Mills-Good was a student at Resiliency Preparatory Academy, Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan told The Herald News. The school planned to have grief counselors for students, the outlet reported.

Rock Street was closed between Bedford Street to Pine Street, Fall River police said in a post to their Facebook at about noon. Franklin Street was also closed from Rock Street to North Main Street.

The public was asked to avoid the area to allow officers to investigate. Police later announced the roads were reopened to regular traffic.

Photos of the scene taken by The Herald News show visible blood on the street and crime scene tape blocking off the area.

State Police assigned to the DA’s office, Fall River police, and homicide unit prosecutors are investigating the incident, Quinn’s office said.
