Haverhill man charged with murder in shooting death of 21-year-old

A Haverhill man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of another man Sunday morning, officials announced Monday. 

Derick Moncion, 22, allegedly shot and killed 21-year-old Jaevy Ortiz Ruiz, also of Haverhill, in the “early morning hours” on Sunday, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and North Andover Police Chief Charles Gray said in a statement. 

Police found Ruiz dead in the area of Riverview Street in North Andover, officials said. 

A warrant charging Moncion with murder was granted Monday afternoon, and he was taken into custody on Monday evening, according to the statement.

Moncion was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Lawrence District Court.
