A 17-year-old boy died after shots were heard in Worcester Monday morning, police said in a statement.
At about 3:15 a.m. Monday morning, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of Shannon Street after gunshots were detected on ShotSpotter, a system used by police to detect gunshots, officials said.
At the scene, officers found evidence that shots were fired but did not find a victim, the department said
Officers checked local hospitals for potential gunshot victims and found the 17-year-old, who was pronounced dead, police said. His identity has not been publicly released.
Worcester police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to send an anonymous text to 274637 starting with “TIPWPD,” submit an anonymous message at worcesterma.gov/police, or call (508) 799 – 8651.
