A couple from Hubbardston pleaded guilty on Friday to charges related to hosting sex parties at hotels around central Massachusetts in 2016 and not paying the women the thousands of dollars they were promised, court documents say.
Jon Lowell and Courtney Nicholopoulos both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic persons for sexual servitude. Lowell also pleaded guilty to paying for sexual acts. The charges, which were brought in Worcester Superior Court in 2016, also initially included trafficking a person for sexual servitude, court records show.
In 2015, Worcester police were contacted by two women who said they were victims of a scam. One woman was promised $12,000 to have sex with men at a party at the Residence Inn in Worcester, court documents show, but was never paid. Another woman was offered $5,000 for protected sex and $12,000 for unprotected sex at Homewood Suites in Billerica.
Their contacts, later identified as Lowell and Nicholopoulos by the Massachusetts Attorney General, did not show up after the parties to pay the women.
Court documents said that police noted an ad for a sex party and decided to send in an undercover female officer to the Holiday Inn Express in Auburn.
Lowell and Nicholopoulos were arrested at the scene, court documents said.
Then-Attorney General Maura Healey’s investigation found that 11 women were allegedly hired by Lowell and Nicholopoulos to work at sex parties in Worcester, Billerica and Auburn. None of the women were paid, and Lowell also had sex with the women in exchange for payment.
According to the Telegram & Gazette, Lowell was sentenced to three years probation, six months of home confinement with GPS tracking, and was also ordered to pay $48,000 in restitution to victims. Nicholopoulos was sentenced to two years probation.
