Man allegedly robs a man and a woman at knifepoint, then kidnaps the woman in Western Mass.

Michael Hunter faces charges of armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon (two counts), kidnapping, assault to commit rape, and assault and battery.

A Northampton man allegedly assaulted and robbed a man and a woman at knifepoint in West Springfield on Wednesday before kidnapping the woman and fleeing with her to a nearby motel.

Michael Hunter, a resident of Leeds, a village in Northampton, faces charges of armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon (two counts), kidnapping, assault to commit rape, and assault and battery, according to authorities.

West Springfield police responded to Riverdale Street around 5:30 p.m. for a report of the incident and learned that the woman had been taken against her will to a nearby motel.

When they arrived at the motel room — reportedly under the suspect’s name — and knocked on the door, police said Hunter briefly hesitated before opening it.

Authorities found the victim inside the room, adding that she was emotionally distraught but physically unharmed.

Police arrested Hunter without incident and recovered two knives from him — one of which they say was consistent with the weapon used in the earlier assault of the couple.
