Two arrested after stabbing in Lawrence

The stabbing, which was part of a fight that left an adult and an infant with injuries, is not believed to be a random act of violence, police said.

Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a stabbing in Lawrence that left an adult man and an infant injured, police said. 

Santo Simon Tejeda Hernandez, 27, of Lawrence was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, police said in a statement. Hernandez was arraigned Tuesday in Lawrence District Court.

Lawrence police responded to a report of an altercation in the area of Newbury Street at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, officials said. Upon arrival, they located a man with stab wounds and an injured infant, who was not stabbed. 

The incident is being investigated by Lawrence police and the Essex County District Attorney’s office. Officials said that the stabbing was not initially believed to be a random act of violence.

The nature of the infant’s injuries was not provided. Police said an unidentified second individual is in custody and will be arraigned on a future date.
