A 15-year-year old girl was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 14-year-old girl at Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester Tuesday, officials said.
Officers responded to 60 Washington St. around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning to a report of a person stabbed, a Boston police spokesperson said.
Police confirmed that a young female victim with a non-threatening injury was brought to a local hospital. The female suspect, also a juvenile, was arrested on scene.
The Boston Globe confirmed with school officials the girls’ ages and their status as students at the high school. According to reporting by The Globe, the school went into “safe mode” for about half an hour during the incident.
“We know incidents like this can cause many to feel anxious, but I want to reassure all members of the Burke High School Community this was an isolated incident between two student and that we will take every step necessary to ensure that our students feel safe and welcomed,” said Burke’s Head of school Amilcar Silva in a letter to families acquired by The Globe. “We will continue to fulfill our commitment to safety every day in every school.”
