An employee allegedly shot a man inside Ocean State Job Lot’s Brockton location on Sunday after the man allegedly pulled a knife on him, police said.
Brockton police identified the shooter as 18-year-old Khamani Anderson and the victim as 26-year-old Brandon Theodat on Monday while announcing charges against both of them.
The shooting happened around noon Sunday following a “dispute” between Anderson and Theodat during which Theodat allegedly pulled a knife on Anderson, Brockton police spokesperson Darren Duarte said in an email. First responders took Theodat to a hospital with a nonlife-threatening injury.
“There appears to be no danger to the public at this time,” Duarte wrote.
Anderson turned himself in to police shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, Duarte said. Theodat was in police custody at a hospital Sunday, WCVB previously reported.
Anderson is set to be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a loaded firearm during a felony, and improper storage of firearm, Duarte said. Theodat is set to be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, and default warrant.
Boston 25 News previously reported that Theodat was shopping at Ocean State Job Lot when the dispute happened.
The discount retailer, which is headquartered in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, said in a statement Sunday that its Brockton location is currently closed.
“The safety of our customers and associates continues to be our top priority as we work with the Brockton Police to investigate this incident,” the company said.
