Lukas Gauthier, a 27-year-old from Mashpee arrested Saturday for allegedly stealing a motor vehicle — and for driving it without a license — has also been charged with an attempted bank robbery earlier the same day, Boston Police said in a statement on Sunday.
Police say Gauthier attempted to rob a bank in the area of 1100 Massachusetts Ave. in Dorchester on Saturday around 11 a.m., when he passed a note to a teller indicating he was armed, though no weapon was seen. The teller refused to comply with Gauthier’s demands, and he fled the scene.
The bank was a Citizens branch located in the Stop & Shop at South Bay Plaza, WCVB reported.
About 11 hours later, officers stationed in the South End conducted a traffic stop around Washington Street and East Berkeley Street at 10 p.m. on a reported stolen motor vehicle. Gauthier, who was allegedly driving the stolen car, was arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and operating after revocation or suspension, according to the statement.
Gauthier is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court, police say.
