A teen was rescued from Boston Harbor — and then arrested for breaking into a yacht, police say

Two other teens, who police said they found standing on the bow of the 97-foot-long yacht Valiant, were also arrested.

Luckily for a 19-year-old struggling to stay above water in Boston Harbor early Monday morning, police arrived and were able to pull him to safety using a rope.

Unfortunately for him, they were also there to arrest him for allegedly breaking into a nearby yacht.

Shortly before 3 a.m., officers responded to 50 Rowes Wharf for a report of a breaking and entering in progress, according to a release.

“The officers were advised that three males had been observed gaining entry to the secured wharf and climbing aboard a large ship,” police said.

At the scene, officers found two of the suspects — later identified as Zachary Whiting, 19, and Lawrence Kirlis, 18, both of Bridgewater — standing on the bow of the 97-foot-long yacht Valiant, according to police. Then, as they were taking the pair into custody, they heard splashing on the other side of the boat.

Officers then observed the third suspect, Ryan Convery, 19, of Bridgewater, struggling in the water approximately twenty feet away from the dock. The suspect was coughing while attempting to stay above the water and stated to officers that he was cold and could not swim. The officers directed the suspect to grab hold of a nearby rope which they then used to pull him back towards the dock. Multiple officers then took hold of the rope, lifting him vertically out of the water to safety.

Convey was treated on scene, taken to a local hopsital, and then booked upon his release.

All three teens were expected to appear in Boston Municipal Court on breaking and entering charges. Whiting is also facing a charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol, as police allegedly recovered a bottle of vodka from his sweatshirt.
