Suspect in car theft reportedly shot by vehicle owner in Lynn

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

The victim of an alleged car theft reportedly shot the suspect as he was fleeing the scene.

The incident happened on Sunday on South Common Street in Lynn, according to WBZ.

The suspect received nonlife-threatening injuries and was later taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, the news station reported.

After making off with the vehicle, the suspect allegedly left that one behind and took off in one that was running and parked outside a pizza shop on Goodrich Street, WBZ reported. He then was chased by police into Swampscott; he crashed at the intersection of Paradise and Ellis streets.

On whether or not the victim was justified in shooting the suspect, police said the incident is still under investigation, and that “it depends on the scenario.”
