A 21-year-old Bentley University honors athlete who had been scheduled to graduate this past spring is charged with raping another student earlier this year.
Jacob Acker is being charged with rape, assault to rape, and indecent assault and battery, according to Boston 25. He pleaded not guilty in Middlesex Superior Court. He was released on personal recognizance after his arraignment.
A grand jury handed down indictments in September against Acker, the news station reported.
The incident allegedly took place in the off-campus home Acker was living in on Feb. 20. A prosecutor said Acker had invited the female student over early that morning, and she declined to have sex with him, according to Boston 25.
According to the the commonwealth’s Statement of the Case, Boston 25 reported, Acker was drinking “hard alcohol” and continued to press the woman, who says she continued to refuse to have sex.
When she woke up later, she felt that something might have happened, the news station reported. She was taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital and treated for injuries; forensic evidence was also collected.
“Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our community,” a statement from Bentley obtained by the news station says. “While we are prohibited from commenting on an ongoing case, any incident that is reported is immediately investigated according to federal and state law, as well as Bentley’s own procedures.”
