Randolph man charged with animal cruelty after allegedly striking geese with stick

A man in Randolph allegedly beat Canada geese with a stick with screws attached to it, leading them to be euthanized.

Now he’s facing animal cruelty charges.

Ernest Allen, 55, was charged with two counts of animal cruelty, according to The Patriot Ledger. He was arraigned and released without bail.

A neighbor reportedly called police when they allegedly saw Allen strike two geese with the stick. When an officer went to the scene, they found injured geese in a pool of blood in the building’s hallway, the newspaper reported.

Another neighbor also said they saw Allen striking the geese, then using cleaning supplies to remove the blood by his door, according to The Patriot Ledger.

When police spoke to Allen, he told them he tried to chase the geese off his patio with a broom, but neighbors said he had been hitting them with the stick. Police then found the stick with screws, which had blood on it, the newspaper reported.

The geese were brought to the New England Wildlife Center in Weymouth. One was euthanized immediately; the other was euthanized after officials tried to treat its injuries, according to the paper.
