Boston officer hospitalized after cruiser struck by suspected drunk driver

The hurt officer was taken to a nearby hospital by Boston EMS and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

A Boston police officer was hospitalized early Sunday morning after a collision in Roxbury involving a suspected drunk driver. 

Boston police responded to a call about a two motor vehicle crash involving a police cruiser at 12:58 a.m. on Sunday. The police report said the injured officer was found on the ground next to the hit police cruiser near 1885 Columbus Ave. 

The hurt officer was taken to a nearby hospital by Boston EMS and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The other driver – identified as 33-year-old Louis Wallace of Cambridge – told officers he was traveling outbound on Columbus Ave while the cruiser was traveling inbound on the same street. According to the police report, Wallace could not provide any further explanation for the crash.

Wallace appeared unsteady, slurred his words, and officers also said there was a “strong smell of alcohol.” He was placed in custody without incident and will appear in Roxbury District Court on two charges, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (2nd Offense).
