Woman injured in shooting at South Boston park, police say
No arrests have been made.
A woman sustained nonlife-threatening injuries after she was shot near a South Boston park Tuesday evening, police said.
Authorities received a report for multiple gunshots near Moakley Park on Old Colony Avenue around 6:44 p.m., Boston Police Officer Kim Tavares, a department spokesperson, told Boston.com.
First responders brought the woman to a local hospital, Tavares said. No other injuries were reported, and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.
City Councilor Ed Flynn, whose district includes South Boston, said in a statement he was “alarmed” to hear about the shooting, which played out near children and families.
“None of our neighbors should ever have to worry when leaving their homes or going to the park about the dangers of gun violence,” he said.
Boston police will increase its presence in the park, Flynn added.
Flynn said he was there this past weekend with his son.
“This is a family park meant for sports, recreation, and leisure activities that should be enjoyed by all neighbors without fear of gun violence,” he said.
My statement re shooting in #Southie. Talked w/ @RepStephenLynch @mfflaherty @david_biele @nickcollinsma & @bostonpolice re increased patrols @ Moakley Park. Will continue to advocate for hiring hundreds of officers due to looming retirements & overstretched resources #bospoli pic.twitter.com/l53YvxJQBY
