An alleged burglar was caught in the act in Newton, and authorities are trying to determine if that suspect is connected to a slew of other break-ins there.

The incident allegedly happened early Tuesday, a resident told WCVB. He said the suspect allegedly went in through the back door of his garage, and he was alerted to it on his phone.

“I look on my phone and I see a guy in my house,” the resident told the news station. “He’s coming in, he goes in the car here and my heart is jumping out of my chest.”

He called 911, and police were able to arrest the suspect there. The person in question was allegedly carrying a knife, according to WCVB.

Another resident, Sophia Vaulina, said her family’s home and cars have been broken into five times over the last few months – three times it was the home, plus a couple of car break-ins.

Police have also recently posted photos and a video of a vehicle that could be related to the crime spree.

The rash of break-ins has been ongoing since mid-March.
