Woman comes face to face with alleged suspect during latest break-in in Newton
Sunday's break-in follows six incidents last week.
Newton police are reporting yet another house break-in, and this time one of the victims came face to face with the alleged burglar.
It’s the latest in a string of break-ins that began last Monday, most of them reported that night with some called in on Tuesday.
During the latest incident, police were called to a home around 3 a.m. Sunday. The resident told authorities she woke up to “faint tapping” and noise outside of her bedroom, police said in a press release.
“When she [went] out to investigate the sounds she noticed a man standing in the bedroom,” the release said. Unmasked initially, he then allegedly pulled on a black ski mask when he saw her. “She and the man stared at each other for a brief moment before the male said something, which she could not understand.”
The man then fled down the stairs and out the back of the house toward the Charles River Country Club, police said.
The victim said the suspect appeared to be a “large” white man around 40 years old, standing about 6 feet tall and roughly 200 pounds. He had “grayish red eyebrows.” Along with the ski mask, he was wearing a dark-colored jacket with orange on the shoulders and back, tan pants, gray boots, and black leather gloves with a wool/cotton fabric on the cuffs. The clothes looked new, she said.
Newton police asked anyone with information regarding any of the break-ins to contact the department at 617-796-2100 or the Tips Line at 617-796-2121.
