2 N.H. residents charged in fentanyl intoxication death of toddler
LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) — Two people have been accused of negligent homicide and other charges in the death of a 21-month-old girl last year after an autopsy determined the cause was acute fentanyl intoxication.
Police in Londonderry responded to a truck stop on Nov. 16 for the report of an unresponsive toddler in a car. A day shift patrol sergeant was nearby and arrived to perform CPR until paramedics arrived.
The toddler was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Police said after several months of investigation, they obtained arrest warrants for Mark Geremia, 32, of Northfield, and Shawna Cote, 29, of Tilton. Both were arrested Tuesday in Northfield.
In addition to negligent homicide, both were charged with manslaughter; reckless conduct with a deadly weapon; falsifying physical evidence; receiving stolen property; conspiracy to commit falsifying physical evidence; and endangering the welfare of a child. Geremia also was charged with three counts of possessing child sex abuse images.
Geremia and Cote each were held on $10,000 cash bail and taken to the Rockingham County House of Corrections pending an arraignment Wednesday afternoon. It was not immediately known if they had lawyers.
